Goal:
Mark will earn money to buy things that he wants by doing chores and schoolwork.
Method:
Over the course of seven days Mark can earn up to $6.
This $6 is based on a 42 point system, 6 points earned each day of the week for different tasks.
The tasks are
- math practice
- reading
- writing
- exercise
- act of kindness
- chores (3 chores equal 1 point)
Each "point" has a monetary value of .14
On Payday, Saturday, Mark will be paid the amount he has earned
Assessment:
Over the course of 8 weeks Mark has earned an average of $2.71 per week. This is 45% of what he could potentially be earning. Based on this outcome it can be determined that the tasks were too challenging for Mark.
Modification:
With the coming school year I will need to establish a new system in which Mark is more successful. Depending on the amount of schoolwork he receives from his teacher, I would like the "school year system" to focus more on household tasks.
Each chore will be worth a whole point.
He will have Fridays off from chores, making his work week 6 days long.
The goal will be to earn $1 a day through various tasks.
Mark will be paid the amount he has earned on Fridays.
Applying these modifications to the last 8 weeks increased Mark's achievement to 61%. For the last week and a half he has been more motivated to participate. I am entertaining the thought of "bonus points" for larger jobs as he gets older.
