So up till now I have been on the dance about sending Miles to kindergarten for the following reasons:
1. He just seems so immature compared to his peers
2. He's not ready to sit in a classroom and learn.
3. The potty. We've worked so hard but there's still accidents at least once a week. Not sure how to handle this one.
4. His "Specials." What we call his speech and SEIT services. Remains to be seen whether he will qualify for summer services or services next fall.
5. His size. He is a full head under the other kids at school. And not catching up anytime soon,
2/25- So after much deliberation and many conversations with the school district I decided to go through with the registration process on February 25. Really this is just a lot of paperwork regarding proof of age, residence, immunizations, contact information... No commitment of any kind made at this point.
3/6- Miles had his speech evaluation. I consider this this first step in definitively assessing his readiness.
3/10- And guess what? He passed with flying colors! Well within the normal range and above in some places. There is no chance of him getting summer series and certainly not services at the school-age level. I am beginning to come to terms with the fact that he may actually be going to kindergarten in the fall. Still apprehensive about how he will perform in the classroom and whether the teacher will be able to handle him and 24 other kids without support. Still a few more hoops to jump through:
