Thought Otetiana Council was a Cool Name?
Growing up in Irondequoit gave me some ownership of the heritage of the land. The native Americans who lived there are remembered and honored in street names, school names, bodies of water, and other local establishments. Most Boy Scout Councils have names that also reflect the heritage of the land they hail from. M1 has just joined the Longhouse Council here in the Cuse and I thought it would be fun to look up the names of other councils in the U.S.
Here are some of my faves:
Tukabatchee- Montgomery, Alabama- so fun to say!
Black Warrior- Tuscaloosa, Alabama- badass
Mount Diablo Silverado- Pleasant Hill, CA- I bet there's a great story behind this one
Chattahoochee - Columbus, GA- hehehe
Chehaw- Albany, GA- you're kidding...
Prairielands- Champaign, IL- makes me wanna wear a bonnet
Three Fires- St Charles, IL- they keep it light
Crossroads of America- Indianapolis, IL
Winnebago- Waterloo, IL- no lean-to's for these guys!
Jayhawk- Topeka, KS- sounds like a Hunger Games novel
Gamehaven- Rochester, MN- How can you not have fun?
Otschodela- Oneonta, NY- I can't even pronounce this one
Rip Van Winkle- Kingston, NY- they do a lot of overnights
Cradle of Liberty- Philadelphia, PA
Rainbow- Morris, IL- either someone has really poor taste or these guys are just FABULOUS!
